Welcome to the New Rotary Year!

Hello Daybreak Rotarians!

I am so excited for us to be embarking on our 27th-28th year as a club, continuing to make a meaningful impact in our local and international communities. This is made possible by each and every one of you as members - stepping up and participating, serving as a Board Member and/or Committee Chair and just being present to help our club succeed and continue to grow and thrive.

We have a great year ahead, continuing our BBQ Fundraiser in September, charitable giving to K-12 teachers, nonprofit organizations and high school students, collaborating on a shared project with the other three San Luis Obispo Rotary clubs, engagement with our Interact Club at SLO High School, and yes, by having FUN!

Like many of our Past Presidents, I have served in most every role in our club since becoming a member in 2004 - serving as President 2009 to 2010 - and am honored to do so this year because all of you have my back and each other's back. Thank you, Let's Go!

With Much Appreciation,
Char Rosales

Rotary Peace Pole Project

We have been approached by the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo de Tolosa to participate in the installation of several Peace Poles throughout San Luis Obispo and at local schools. Clubs involved would be de Tolosa, the Rotary Club of SLO, the Rotary Passport Club of the Central Coast, the local Rotaract and Interact Clubs, and us. A Peace Pole displays the message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth”, a message authored by Masahisa Goi of Japan after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is an international message of peace and furthers Rotary’s goal of building a culture of peace throughout the world. Over 250,000 Peace Poles are currently placed in every country in the world and is a powerful catalyst bringing communities together to promote peace and unity.

It has been a few years since the SLO Rotary Clubs collaborated on a shared project and the addition of the Passport, Rotaract and Interact members is exciting. There has been one informational meeting with representatives from each of the Rotary Clubs. The poles are eight-feet tall and designed with the Rotary logo, a rainbow unity flag, languages reflecting our area's indigenous and immigrant history, a plate in Braille and a QR code for more information. The cost is approximately $250 per pole and based on the size of our club, we will determine at what level we can participate. This will be part of our budget discussion at the July and August Board meetings.

Did You Know? Rotary is a global network of more than 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” ~ Paul Harris
